This book seems to be missing many steps, doesn’t reflect what’s actually in this version, and gives vague information about what is possible with certain versions, but it turns out much of what is represented in the book isn’t actually in project or share point. This book is clunky and Not practical for project management. Back to the drawing board and what a waste of money!
In preparing for a new position, I needed to fully master the software, as I have been using a few features only. I have learned a lot from this book, which gives you all the knowledge to be an effective power user of MS Project 2016.
I recently met with a fellow senior project manager and we lamented major North Sea and Gulf of Mexico projects we'd worked on earlier in our careers (I'm retired, he's not). For reference, my most memorable projects, as drilling design manager, were the North Sea Brae A & B platforms. I recall Brae A was $1.2 billion, and that was in the late 70s, early 80s. I told him I'd just purchased (through Amazon), PRACTICAL PROJECT MANAGEMENT, with MICROSOFT PROJECT 2016, by Bonnie Biafore, and had spent a few fun hours going through the book and wishing I'd had access to even a tenth of what the book has to offer The book came out only last week (early April), so it's only now available. It is profoundly comprehensive, and I truly wish I'd had access to the resource when I had team of project managers. I challenged my friend to get his own copy (he took notes) and to invite his fellow PMs to do the same, as each would benefit from the book. I've known the author (Bonnie Biafore) for a number of years. She's an MIT grad and PMI expert with significant industry credibility . . . and she's a great writer. Kudos!!

Excellent book
Did a good job of covering the software.
From beginners to more advanced users this book covers it all with a wealth of information and nuggets of knowledge that I have not seen anywhere else. I have been an active user of MS Project since the 1990’s, and this book was a great refresher of the basics and an excellent resource for the more complex concepts such as working with macros, working with multiple projects, sharing data between applications, etc. that serve to expand and enhance use of MSP and customize the it for organizational needs. It covers all software distribution modes from Standard and Professional desktop versions to cloud collaboration and enterprise features with Office 365 and SharePoint.For a software book of this magnitude, the tone is surprisingly light and enjoyable (although occasionally a bit redundant) making it very readable. The content is practical verses pedantic with lots of “Tips†and “Notes†throughout to highlight best practices and nuances not obvious to the casual user. The step-by-step instructions and downloadable exercise files make absorption of the material very manageable (especially for those new to the software) while the exhaustive table of contents and detailed index make it a perfect reference book. There are also embedded references to applicable content in other Chapters so readers can “skip around†without missing critical information.In short, this book is a treasure trove of useful information that will help all levels of MS Project users to understand the secrets of the scheduling engine that makes the software work. It is the only book that you will ever need!
I stumbled across this book a couple of months ago while searching for resources to better familiarize myself with Microsoft Project 2016. I consider myself to be a novice user, but until I read this, I was only using maybe 20% of the capability of Project. This book is, for the most part, a step by step guide to turn you from a beginner to a seasoned professional. The information is very clearly conveyed and I enjoyed Bonnie's writing style. I am always striving to learn new things and the example projects that are provided are golden. They allow the reader a hands on approach to learning all of the features that his program has to offer. I would highly suggest this book to anyone that is looking to expand their Project knowledge and bring value to themselves and their companies.
